Tizen 1.0 SDK has been released

Given that the Nokia N9 is Nokia’s first and last MeeGo attempt, we have to wonder how the MeeGo’s successor, Tizen, will fare. In any case for those who might have been interested in the development of Tizen, the good news is that version 1.0 of the software developer kit (SDK) has been released. The release has been given the codename Larkspur and for those curious, you will be able to take it for a test drive on either a Windows or Ubuntu Linux computer.

For those unfamiliar, Tizen is essentially the “successor” (if it can be called that) to MeeGo. It is an open sourced operating system designed for smartphones, tablets and netbooks in mind. The project is currently being maintained by the Linux Foundation and has the backing and support from Intel and Samsung just to name a few. Could Tizen hope to take on the likes of other mobile operating systems like iOS, Android, Windows Phone and even Blackberry 10 and achieve commercial success? We guess we will have to wait and see.
